  Brain and Spinal Cord Injuries

Among the most devastating of all personal injuries, brain injuries can result in permanent physical disability, severe mental impairment, and even death. In addition to the overwhelming expenses usually involved in caring for someone with a brain injury, the victim's loved ones also have to face daily emotional and psychological hardships. We help brain injury victims and their loved ones restore some measure of order and harmony in their lives by fighting on their behalves to obtain the damages to which they are entitled.

Two types of brain injuries are closed head and open head, which is also known as a penetrating head injury. Closed head injuries occur when the head is abruptly stopped while it is in motion causing the brain to hit the inside of the skull and bruise. Accidents like this can occur during whiplash - an accident that happens without even causing external damage to the head. Open head injury occurs when objects penetrate the skull from accidents like firearms, auto accidents, or other violent events.

Another type of brain injury is “acquired brain injuries” generally result from depravation of oxygen to the brain, such as might occur due to medical negligence.

Spinal cord injuries can be equally devastating and expensive to brain injuries. Almost all spinal cord injury victims suffer some permanent loss of or damage to bodily function and sensation. Injuries that occur higher on the spinal cord are more likely to result in the loss of the ability to control movements at or below the site of the damage. As with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries often result from accidents for which the victim was not responsible. Common accidents that result in spinal injuries include automobile and truck accidents, workplace accidents, slip and fall accidents, and accidents during sporting activities. Tragically, many spinal cord injuries result from intentional violent acts.
